Salon from a Suitcase

After talking with my mom this week, via our lovely vonage phone, I learned that some of you were interested in seeing more of our apartment. I had mentioned earlier that I would be doing this in installments, but alas I have only talked about our kitchen so far. So without any further ado I present to you our salon.



Here they call the living room the salon. A salon is a place to recieve guests. Salon has a deeper meaning however. Historically it means a gathering of people who get together basically for the sole purpose of entertaining each other with intriquing conversations in order to refine their opinions. This explains why their is such a ridiculous amount of seating in our living room. It has occurred to me that our whole extended family could possibly sit comfortably in this room (wink wink, nudge nudge).


Our apartment came with sattelite TV. This was overwhelming at first because Katie and I have never had cable as a married couple and now we have 100s of channels. We get some where around 10 english channels that include: CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Fox Movies, Action channel, and 4 others that have english programing. These four others have shows such as Oprah, Rachel Ray, Martha Stewart, and the worst: Dr. Phil (as displayed in the picture). The highlight of the sattelite programing is American Idol. We have started having American Idol nights with some of our friends. For you AI watchers, my favorite is Lil.

In an earlier blog I had mentioned obtaining firewood. Here is a picture of it in it's chaotic pile. As soon as we got the wood it started to be spring. It was in the low 70s last week. Then out of nowhere we got 2-3 inches of snow. It is now freezing and miserable again, and still snowing. Anyways, this has enabled us to start using some of the wood and it gives the apartment a more homey kind of smell.
